Week notes, week 1343-1344 / 2026-10-18 through 2026-10-25
Another double feature! I got carried away with writing last week, and never got around to finishing my weeknotes! wail
But, important things first:
- I have achieved INBOX ZERO!
This thing needs a better name; "inbox zero" is getting stale. A "no-task" list? Anyway...Took some dedication, but now both my personal inbox and my company email inbox are all empty!
Also ended up cleaning up some stale tabs/tasks and similarly following up with things left long forgotten.
I'm missing the cool visual Google's old Inbox had for clearing out all emails, so here goes: ☀️✉️ 😊 - Had a nice day off after the tiredness last week, and feeling better. Also had some chats with colleagues on topics related to burnout, and it's been nice to both know others care (yay supportive environment!) and to remember to take more care of myself.
- Cooking still helps take the edge off workdays. Forgot what I cooked week #1343, but during #1344 I made some banitsa, and finally nailed the process: this time around I had enough filo sheets to fill out the baking pan, the cheese-and-eggs mix was sufficient, and the oil and water were enough for it to not parch up while baking...
- Free-folded a bad origami dragon starting from a blintzed origami crane. Sorta posed like it's mid-dive 😁 I absolutely love the thin paper I bought during week #1339, it is so much more enjoyable to fold, and it doesn't tear up at random like the paper I used earlier! ✨
- Mom dropped by for a surprise visit! It was so nice to go out on walks and talk and such. Thanks, mom! 💚
- Almost got a 3k-word article written...
- We were blissfully stabilizing our project at work, when we were rudely interrupted by management, first with extra compliance matters, then with extra product constraints that we still don't know how we will meet. I foresee a great deal of brainstorming and proof-of-concept-ing ahead.
Reading, games, and other media
- Picked up Endless Sky again, inspired by chatters on IRC. Positively impressed with the changes since I last touched it in ~2020. Human space is so much livelier now! Also, I see they have adopted an anti-AI strategy (..could be guessed, given that the story revolves around empathy prevailing over ruthless efficiency; but definitely not something to be taken for granted in a futuristic space game!), and have gained plenty of diverse characters on random missions, which is certainly nice to see! Should be a good FOSS game to contribute to! 🤔
- Just rolled the credits in Spelunky Classic HD! Finally. On the 499-th attempt, per in-game stats 😅 I think this is the first roguelite I've ever completed; usually I give up much earlier.
- No books read this week..
