Week notes, week 1345 / 2026-11-01
- I got an email! After cleaning my inbox last week!
(shakes head you guys, didn't let me enjoy it even a single week!)It was regarding my Puzzle Maths article, and the person messaging me seemed nice enough, so it has been added as a comment (with a slight editorial edit) 😇 - I sent out an email! To a friend from my writing days; after reading a nice self-printed book I had left sitting on a shelf for that exact purpose... ✨
- Work was predictably hung up in a lot of brainstorming on how to implement everything anew. A small win, for me, was diagramming everything out... which led to a slowly realization that our current architecture is pretty close to optimal (ignoring massively-distributed alternatives), which means that there's a chance we could avoid a costly reimplementation of the "whole world".
- (Per long standing programming tradition, we will likely still reimplement the whole world just for the sake of it, of course)
- Missed a lot of sleep in the second half of the week. Not good! Ended up talked myself out of traveling on the weekend to have more time to catch up with sleep.
- Used the day freed up of traveling to instead visit with friends and chat with people at church. This was quite relaxing!
Reading, games, and other media
- I played some more Endless Sky, speedrunning through the storylines I know, and getting surprised by the additions I didn't know. I have presently managed to get myself stuck in a region of space, and I love how the game manages to take away the feeling of invincibility one builds up exploring elsewhere. Do not go gentle into that good night!
- As mentioned above, I read someone's self-published/printed book! Nothing you can find outside of a pretty narrow community, but it was quite the nostalgic read.. So many references to people and events I knew and/or was close to! ✨
- Got new music for this week's Bandcamp Friday! 🎶 Notably, Grand Pre by the Vocal Few; Go is a long-time favorite.
- Read half a sermon by John Owen. Boy, did people write complicated sentences back then! 😅
Man being turned from his unchangeable rest seeks to quiet and satiate his soul with restless movings towards changeable things. The shaking and translating of heaven and earth, John Owen
