Week notes, week 1342 / 2026-10-11
Immediately after complaining that my room and mental is a mess in the last week notes, per long-standing tradition of this blog, I proceeded to clean up the whole room and some of the house 😁 Mental is still a bit of a mess, though; feeling overwhelmed, which I'd say calls for a day off next week.
- Had a really nice video game session with a friend on the weekend; just sitting next to each other while I was escaping the Skyblock:Zero Abyss and he was building some sort of wizard tower in Minecraft. Snacks were had, of course, as were drinks. Technically waste of a whole half day for both of us, but it was nice.
- More code-writing at work this week! Also, learning about mTLS and planning ways to implement it, with plenty of diagrams.
- Followed by implementing network ACLs. I'm amazed at how hard it is to configure modern programming languages, frameworks, operating systems, and deployment models to "only allow THIS piece of code to connect to THAT piece of code". We need real capability-based security, stat!
- Ended the week with a teambuilding! Mostly a late-night bar far away, but I played card games with colleagues and went to sleep instead 😁 Next day had some fun paintball-like archery activity, and my team successfully out-shot and out-dodged the other teams to win first place! 🎉
- Cooking-wise, I'm planning/trying to defrost the refrigerator, so mostly focused on cleaning out everything, to arrive at a crab-sticks-with-mushrooms rice and a fish-on-a-plateau of vegetables. Nothing to write home about, so here I go posting about it on my blog instead...
- Of course, I'm again out of carrots. I did buy carrots twice since the last week notes post; but they somehow end up a better snack food than apples for me.
Reading, games, and other media consumption
- Skyblock:Zero playthrough is slowly progressing, as mentioned above. Made it into and out of the abyss (really cool twist on the idle factory experience!) Now on the backburner, as I need a goal to automate towards before continuing.
- Spelunky Classic finally saw me entering the fourth stage! Only really mastered the first stage, though...
- No books read, sadly.
As promised last week, I want to include a link to a cool, recent, no-AI programming article with the weeknotes. Today, this honor goes to....

Hard Problem? Stop Staring At The Code by S.Lott (found via Handcrafted Code)!
The article describes a way to correct for faulty assumptions regarding a piece of code: by looking at more evidence. Somewhat philosophical, but short and sweet, and very much applicable in practice. Everybody needs an excuse to add extra printf-s!
