Week notes, weeks 1340-1341 / 2026-09-27--2026-10-10
Couldn't organize myself in time for week 1340, so here is a post featuring not one, but two weeks!
- Overall, was plenty busy with both work and German studies.
- My company was part of the organizers for KCD Sofia, and I got one of the tickets. I was... amused by the variety of AI topics at the conference. There was AI in cybersecurity, AI in operations, AI in HTTP gateways, AI mindfulness for used resources... along with some nicer Open-source / CNCF topics.
- The IPv6-related idea I was working on-and-off in the past weeks was sadly defeated by an IPv6-shaped monster hiding in the basement—everything worked in local simulation, but the actual platform lacks the specific feature set needed by my idea. IPv4 ideas are on the rise, however; maybe we'll have a working solution still! 😁
- Participated in my first Sprint Retrospective! It's nice to finally start organizing the task board.
- Finally got back to writing some actual code, and I have missed that so much. I need to learn a better balance between code-work and documentation/planning/meeting-work, because even if both are valuable, they are draining and refreshing in completely different ways.
- In less work-y stuff, I finally folded a successful rat origami!
- Got bit by the cooking bug again and prepared some nice autumn-ish meals at home: a pumpkin soup with milk, and buttered boiled corn on the cob. Also snacked on many a carrot and even a kohlrabi, which is to say, I'm again out of vegetables 😅😁
Random bit of reflection: I am intentionally selecting nice things for the list above.
...If I had to take stock of life overall for the last few weeks... yeaa.
My room is a good reflection of my mental: messy, chaotic, everything is everywhere, worse that when I wrote the continuations post; the issue board at work is just every bit as chaotic, as is the half of the code that is being moved around for one reason or another. Everything needs more maintenance work, but I do feel tired :/
(Oh hey it's the weekend)
Reading, games, and other media consumption
#werewolfhas been livelier recently, with many cool games of social deduction. I keep fake-claiming roles against the meta, and it makes it even more fun! 😇- Spelunky Classic HD has been a nice post-work distraction lately. Consistently getting down to ice levels, but it is a ruthless roguelike. Good replayability!
- Played some more Luanti / Skyblock Zero, automating circuits fully, despite whatever I said in week 1336. This has resulted in another PR, which is why open-source video games are a lot cooler than closed-source ones.
Continuing the reflection from above: one thing I'm missing is recreational reading about cool programming techniques. It's a pity that many of the programming blogs I was beginning to follow have turned to posting AI-related techniques only. There was something worth reading about in articles about solving hard problems and running into fundamental issues of limited parallelism, throughput, security/trust, CPU performance, latency, memory usage, type provability, or any other problem not caused by an operating system or framework.
Maybe as a challenge, I should try to find a recent (say, last 3 months) article meeting those criteria to add to every weeknote post. ✨
